HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus Hands on Review

The HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus the company's latest micro server effort, a category where HPE has had tremendous success over the years. There's a lot to like about the MicroServer Gen10 Plus, starting with the Pentium or Xeon CPU options and the small form factor, thanks in large part to pulling the power supply outside the chassis, which also reduced the need for a second fan, and thus noise. HPE has also included iLO (optional) this time around via add-in management card. There's also a PCIe expansion slot that can be used for 10GbE networking or hardware RAID card. The system has 4 LFF (3.5") SATA drive bays that are not hot swappable. HPE will get picked on here some, as a SFF backplane would have been a welcome addition as the price of SSDs has fallen, and the MicroServer could have benefitted from the heat and noise reduction flash would have offered. SSDs are supported though, just 4 drives officially, homelabbers will quickly find a path to 8 or more drives in this system however.

Our review system comes with the "Performance 1" Spec which includes the Xeon E-2224 Quad-Core 3.4GHz CPU, 16GB RAM, iLO 5 and the HPE Smart Array S100iSR software RAID option. We also have a supplemental 16GB DIMM en route, which will let us get to 32GB in the two DIMM slots.

Our full performance review is in process now. For now, this video provides a detailed overview of the MicroServer Gen10 Plus.
Jaylincry : Can this run windows server 2016 with services all running on it. Dhcp. Dns. Domain controller. File sharing.? Smoothly. 10 clients
dupa jasio : I'm confused. ILO doesn't support AMD Epyc ? That would be crazy ...
Muhmed : I just wish it was possible to have redundant power supplies on a model this small or is there a better option in the series?
Tadej Sadar : I think this version is too expensive. I have N36L and I went Dell route. Just bought PowerEdge.
P. Wingert : Pant! Pant! Pant! Wow! I am so glad we decided to skip Gen 10 for the 40 regional office deployments Lack of ILO was the deal breaker on that.. Now I just need to know availability for Canada and whether it accepts clearOS abd Windows Server 2019 like the first Gen 10 did.

Bas Steenbergen : What for type are those wd drives? smr or cmr ?
Prasenjit Sardar : Tried to add a 2.5 inch intel 180gb SSD hard drive with the 3.5 inch converter , in the internal slot . But the server will not detect it..
ItsBBP : This video is a goldmine of info for anyone getting a Gen10+,
It'd be good to see what kind of GPU's work inside it too,
And if theres a potential to upgrade the external PSU, (if alternates are available, and if the system can handle the extra power).
I hope HP looks at using a socketed Ryzen CPU in the next generation, good performance with ECC support has made the 3200x a great CPU for a NAS.
Jennifer Gale : Any affiliate links to purchase?!? I'd love to help y'all out
Jennifer Gale : How loud would you say this system is while running?
